Retriv ("the app," "we," "us") is a study and flashcard app. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and your choices.
Account information. When you create an account (via email/password, Sign in with Apple, or Google Sign-In), we collect your email address and, optionally, your display name and a profile photo.
Study data. We store the lessons, flashcards, and study progress you create or interact with in the app — including custom lessons you create, your answers, scores, and streaks — so your progress is saved and can sync across sessions.
Photos for AI Smart Scan. If you use the "AI Smart Scan" feature to create a lesson from photos of notes or textbook pages, those photos are sent to Google's Gemini API to extract questions and answers. We do not store these photos after processing; only the resulting text (questions and answers) is saved to your account.
Microphone and speech. If you use voice mode to answer questions aloud, your speech is processed using Apple's Speech Recognition framework to convert it to text for grading. Depending on your device and settings, Apple may perform this recognition on your device or on Apple's servers. Retriv does not store your audio or send it to our own servers.
Camera and photo library. Used only to let you take or choose photos for creating lessons (manual scan or AI Smart Scan). We don't access your camera or photos for any other purpose.
We use the information above solely to operate the app's core features: authenticating you, saving your lessons and progress, generating AI-assisted study questions, and providing voice-based study sessions. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your data to third parties.
Each of these providers processes data only as necessary to provide the functionality described above.
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data (profile, lessons, progress, results) at any time from Profile → Delete Account within the app. This action is immediate and cannot be undone.
Retriv is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
